Ensuring the most appropriate asphalt substrates are designed, manufactured, and installed for tennis and track surfaces. This session will present the most important asphalt (aka Asphalt 101) needs so that the asphalt suppliers and installers know what to promote to architects and engineers. The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) Asphalt Guidelines developed by Tim Murphy, President of Murphy Pavement Technology shall be discussed throughout.

Takeaways:
Within these sessions we will explore needed asphalt mixture design, production, and construction specifications and techniques to follow in order to:
1. Provide positive drainage to keep moisture away from the asphalt and coating thus protecting the entire system of products.
2. Ensure acceptable asphalt installation specific to asphalt ingredients, compaction, and smoothness.
3. Provide for a surface that will accept and perform when coated for tennis courts and running surfaces.
4. Avoid failures and ensure successes by following the recommended asphalt principles.
5. Understand what causes failures and how to avoid them in the future.
6. Discuss coating systems, cure time, and time of year installation practices.
7. Develop a list of 'must haves' specific to asphalt for participants as they work with architects worldwide.

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). APA/NAPA’s webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.
